What we use

If we want to manage institutional repositories (IRs) and collections created by mass-digitization projects, we'll use a digital library as the application. This is information management technology with large amounts of data. Technical standards developed by large brains and creative minds recognize the need for "interoperability". This means that we want to distribute mass amounts of data and resources the same way to all users. This is the "holy grail" for library content in the 21st century. Our government also manages scientific data with information management technology and, makes holes in space (just wondering if your reading this)...NASA missions. Important stuff. Plus, we need to be sure it works on past, present and future information resources.
